7/15/2009 by: Gunnar Wuher Hey everybody.
Just doing a wrap up of NWA NY's Beatdown. A Post-Show will be posted soon, however I felt the need to expand on a few thoughts while I'm in a writing mood. There are also two EXCLUSIVE Wrap-Up's here that do NOT appear in the post-show. Due to the chaotic nature of the show I had forgotten to re-shoot the segments
Bobby Fish vs. Cheech
Rob 2 Sweet, Soundcheck Sully, & Chip Stetson vs. The Young And The Wrestlers.
Here we go:
The Dustytaker defeated Super Assassin
Dusty looked right at home at the German house. for a second there I thought Super Assassin had a victory coming to him. Then Dusty slapped his paw onto SA's throat and it was all over.
Anthony Ciazzo defeated Johnny Kayfabe via DQ
This feud has been escalating for awhile now. At the Monroe County Fair Anthony cold-cocked Kayfabe right in front of me. Johnny went down hard. Now this 2 minute challenge would have been won by Mr. Ciazzo from 95.1 The Fox if Hellcat and Triple X didn't show up to save their pencil-necked geek. Did I mention Anthony dropped him AGAIN with another straight shot? However, Ring Crew Express came out to make the save. Dunn and Marcos, helping' out the guy from the radio station that plays the hits that Dunn and Marcos love. (I think at least, I don't listen to the radio much admittedly)
Dewey Van Dam defeated Mo Mantha to capture the No Limits Championship
This match was the surprise of the night. I love Rob Van Dam and have been for a good 10 years at this point. When Dewey throws on the "One of a Kind" singlet, I'd have to say he's got me won over. I'm surprised to see this match end the way it did. Mo clocked himself with a chair and Dewey hit the 420 splash to take the win. It was a great way to start out Beatdown's main show! Congrats to Dewey on his title win.
The Young And The Wrestlers defeated Rob "Just 2" Sweet, Soundcheck Sully, and Chip Stetson
An Impressive win by Y&W. Soundcheck and Rob had the right idea to grab Chip as their partner, however apparently the Andos and "Superbad" Richard Venice was too much for them. They had a new finisher debut which looked pretty sweet. Ending in a standing Shooting Star Press by Gino Ando, the combination move from this trio was impressive. More on them later... However, may I say that Rob 2 Sweet and Soundcheck Sully could learn a few things from the Young and the Wrestlers. These guys have a trio going on instead of the Tag Team the two rookies have going on. Maybe it's time to look for a third men to be the opposing force to the Young and the Wrestlers? Rob's got a good personality and Sully can and always will work his ass off in the ring to get his job done.
Cheech defeated Bobby Fish
A GREAT match that saw Cheech pull out the win... even with the Fish Pageant of "Why I Am So Big In Japan" Streamers! Ninjas! A Trophy! A Japanese-Style Name Announcement! The NOAH-presented Bobby Fish came out to a lot of (forced) fanfare. I'm sure the fans in the crowd really wanted to see Bobby win. Lots of chain wrestling, a bit of mat work, and an exciting finish. The three key things to make a solid technical bout and this is what this match was all about. This match stuck out to me as a perfect example of what the kids in the school should be aspiring to to make a match. The pacing and the timing were excellent. They had the crowd behind them and I really couldn't tell who would win.
Triple X and Hellcat defeated Ring Crew Express. Afterward, Kevin Dunn announced his final match will occur next month against his tag team partner and very first opponent, Mean Marcos.
This match had me going on commentary. I totally wanted RCE to take these belts! The dive to the outside was a sick spot and I totally thought Dunn had re-injured his bad knee. However I confirmed that it was 'just a bruise'. Sick tag team work from two of the best in the division. The Unskinny Bop HAD to of been a 3 count. I completely thought Marcos had it with that one. An amazing final match (as a tag team) for the Ring Crew Express.
Dunn vs. Marcos will be perfect.
CloudLee defeated The McCLouds in Kyle McCloud's final match.
There were so many ways this could of or should of ended I'm surprised it went like this. Starting off with a rundown of the crowd by Cloudlee, the McClouds came out brawling. This contest was hot as hell. Tons of big two counts that brought us to an ending on Kyle McCloud. It was a Powerbomb/Lungblower combination that looked like a big car wreck. Not saying it looked bad, quite the opposite. Brodie just might of well have smashed his truck into Kyle's chest. Cloudlee with the win here which, until Brodie got Kyle up, was unexpected. After the match, this is where things got interesting. Cloudlee hits another one of those Rig-wrecks (for lack of a better term). Satisfied, they leave. Then when both the McClouds come to their senses, Kyle gets on the mic and lets everyone know that this is his last match. "All good things must come to an end." Shame it had to be so soon Mr. McCloud. You will be missed.
Gabe Saint defeated Colin Delaney.
Great match between these two. Gabe nails his Down the Sun Frogsplash to pick up the victory on Mr. Delaney. Now this match was a pretty standard Delaney match. However, the big difference maker(or what should have been), the presence of the Young and The Wrestlers. Gabe had his hands full with the rookies beating down on him when they hit the ring. Colin playing ringmaster to this three-ringed Beatdown, I found myself overwhelmed with irony. Much to everyone surprise Gabe started to fight back and was successful! He eventually cleared the entirety of the new group out of the ring and stood tall as your Number One Contender to the NWA New York Heavyweight belt.
Nick Ando, Gino Ando, and "Superbad" Richard Venice have been "The Young and The Wrestlers" for about a year now. Together they've made a minimal impact in the midcard of NWA NY, however they have been improving. This trio has a ton of potential, according to Colin Delaney at least. Colin sees them as he was once, but let me ask you something... is he really in the best interest of these boys? I mean look at what hap pend with him and Danny Doring. Pops Mr. Doring in the mouth on "accident" and Danny ends up on the business end of a surprise Hot Mess by the now NWA New York Champion, Pepper Parks. Where's Jimmy Olsen in all of this as well? How does he feel about the Young and the Wrestlers? Only time will tell how much this new alliance will help (or potentially hurt) those involved. The Carribean Connection defeated Spazz and Dickey Harter.
This match! Oh I loved this match. A rematch from the 5/23 show at the Minett hall. It was the last match of the Pre-show but it still was a solid bout. This one however saw the debut of a few new moves from Coconut Jones and Maximo Suave. A Straightjacket bomb called the "Banana Hammock", a Doomsday Device like maneuver except I believe the opponent is tossed off the shoulders of Mr. Jones which is called the "Palm Tree" and finally the finisher for the group: The Carribbean Postcard. This maneuver won these two the match. Now, Dicky and Spazz are great as singles' competitors. In my opinion both should be prime candidates for the No Limits title number one contenders' slot, however this new tag team venture doesn't seem to be working out for them. Spazz's passion and Dicky's heart really came out in this match in spite of that. I just remember at one point Dicky had Coco up on his shoulders and started an Airplane Spin, then lifted him up into a Spinning Guerilla Press slam that had a lot of rotation and lift. I'd like to see D to the Icky use that "whirly-gig" more often. However, this match should be a good showcase for Coco and Maximo to present their case to the
championship board for another shot at the Tag Team belts. "Pepper Parks defeated "Dangerous" Danny Doring via countout when Doring refused to return to the ring.
Ok, so this is how we start this confrontation. "The Great of NWA Upstate" decides to not defend his title in a fair manner once again. We saw so much Tomfoolery in the ring in that Cage at the anniversary show I was sick of it at this point. Luckily, Chip is too. Comes out to the ring and tells Doring to get back in or he's stripped of the title if he gets cou
nted out again. Pepper Parks defeated "Dastardly" Danny Doring via disqualification.
When Danny DQ'd himself from the match, I was sure he was desperate. Apparently he just didn't want to face Pepper that night. I could see why given the final result of the match. Chip restarts once again and claims that if Danny tries that once again, he'll be stripped. Period. for the sanity of all the fans in the room, the bell is rung
Pepper Parks defeated "Dangerous" Danny Doring via pinfall to be crowned the new NWA NY Heavyweight Champion. After the false starts, I'm really glad this one got off the ground. A solid match from both men, technically sound and completely brutal with the striking, this corner stone of Danny vs. Pepper was by far one of the best matches of this series. At one point, "Danaconda" hit the Bareback and had Pepper in the center of the ring. I thought for sure we'd see another retaining right there, only because "The Patrick Swayze of Professional Wrestling" had been outsmarted into that nasty predicament. When the referee (this match required 2 to get the job done) counted 2 and 7/8ths, the crowd let out a big wave of tension. When Ron Falco came to after he'd been hit by one of two men(probably Doring), he counted a lighting-quick count to 'screw' Danaconda out of the belt. This was unsuccessful to the surprise of every man woman and child in that arena. It took a bit more offense before we got around to the final seconds of the match. As I mentioned before, Doring's "friend" Colin Delaney came out to help the former champion win the match, however that backfired which lead Pepper into his variation of the Jumping Neckbreaker - The Hot Mess. A cover in the middle of the ring and you have the following things:
1.)A referee holding a hand high in victory
2.)A ringbell ringing
3.)A ring announcer announcing the victor
4.)A KO'd Danny Doring
5.)A New NWA NY Heavyweight Champion: "The Patrick Swayze of Professional Wrestling" Pepper Parks.
Coming up:
The Indytational Tournament is here! I'll have predictions for who I think will win it all. Also: Marcos vs. Dunn "All Dunn", Gabe Saint vs. Pepper Parks for the NWA NY Heavyweight title! All that and more next time!
Thanks for reading and watching. Comments can be passed on the usual channels and are most appreciated!
