2/17/2009 by: Gunnar Wuher Hello Everyone,
Welcome to another double dose of ‘Loot, Pillage, and Piledrivers’. I’d just like to thank all of the fans that came down and made Wrestlebowl ’09 a night to remember. A lot of changes in the air here at NWA Upstate, and I’ll try to keep my finger on them the best I can. One match at Wrestlebowl that I was disappointed didn’t happen was the No-Limits Champion, Gabreal Saint, going up against “The Montgomery Madman” Mo Mantha. Now apparently Mantha tore his “meniscusesses” at the previous show, which caused the replacement of Loca Vida. I expect a full recovery for Mo at the next show and Saint to be ready for anything the so called ‘Madman’ has to throw at him. Both man had each other’s number at the “Pilgrims and Piledrivers” match they had together, however I’d like to see a clear victory for one of the two men. Without further ado, I have Mo Mantha finally sitting down with me.
Mo Mantha’s NWA Upstate Profile:
Name: “The Montgomery Madman” Mo Mantha
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 235lbs
Finishing Maneuver: The Buick Regal (Piledriver) and Montgomery Melon Masher (DDT)
Entrance Music: “Long Live Rock” by The Who
Former Accomplishments: Last Kayfabe Dojo Heavyweight Champion RCW Heavyweight Champion 6-man Tag Champions (w/Eric Everlast & Triple X)
Quirky Fact: “I’m actually a school teacher by day.”
GW: Now Mo, What would be your favorite maneuver to execute in the ring? MM: I like the Spear. It’s a rootin’ tootin’ good time to smash into sumbody at full speed. Better than Moonshine!
GW: What injury has been the worst in your career? MM: The one I’ve got right now! Didn’t you see me in them there crutches at the show? Or were you in the back there talkin’ to another one of the boys? My torn ‘meniscuseses’ happened at the Indytational, I reckon. I’m not too keen on the exact time, I was just pitchin’ hay and all of a sudden my knee went out on me! Mind you, I really had to see someone after I was down south of the border… GW: Mexico? MM: No you Yank! The Mason-Dixon! I heard that these guys had finally bagged the Sasquatch and I had to go down and bag one muhself. I was out in the woods with my dog Max and I stepped on a branch wrong while walkin’ to the car. Hurt more than leeches on your privates!
GW: Well, outside of hunting for Sasquatch and Professional Wrestling, What else do you do Mo? What’s life like? MM: I’m teachin’. That means up in the mornin’ and dealing with those kids. Outside of that, I try to find things like announcing for Basketball or Baseball. I’m actually in a band, too! I’m the lead singer of my band “Lou & The EZ Annas”
GW: What was your absolute worst drive to an event? Either you attended or participated in? MM: It was to Massena, NY. It was myself, Brodie Lee… and I don’t remember who else. It was just long as hell man. Longer than a horse’s piss!
GW: If you were to team up with a former foe of yours, who would it be and why? MM: Actually, now that I think about it, Gabe Saint. Yeah yeah, I know you’d say ‘But your currently feuding against him.’ I just know if he gives me this much trouble in the ring, and then he can give someone else that trouble ya hear? I know he knows what he’s doing and he works his ass off. A hard workin’ man is a hard workin’ man no matter how you look at it.
GW: What goes through your head before a match, right before you come out to your music? MM: ‘Don’t F*** it up’ that’s basically it.
GW: Finally, who do you look up to as a person? Why? MM: My father. He knows a lot about living and I appreciate what he’s taught me.
Gabreal Saint’s NWA Upstate Profile:
Name: “The Bull of Black Mountain” Gabreal Saint.
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 191lbs.
Entrance Music: “Suddenly” - 1000 Shades of Cold.
Finishing Move: Down the Sun (Frog Splash)
Former Accomplishments: Former Kayfabe Dojo Title Holder Current No-Limits Champion War-Games Participant.
Quirky Fact: I’m an Avid Warhammer Player. (At mentioning that I knew something or another about Warhammer, he proceeds to show me the model he just finished painting. Impressive.)
GW: What’s your favorite move to execute in the ring at the moment? GS: I love doing Running European Uppercuts. I’m a primary striker when it comes to the ring, so I like to hit hard and fast.
GW: What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had in the ring? GS: A broken jaw. It was versus Spazz at the first Wrestlebowl. Spazz broke my jaw within the first seconds of the match, I still finished it AND I won!
GW: What do you do, besides the Warhammer and Wrestling, which keeps you occupied? GS: I’m the Bassist and Guitarist for a 3 days Grace cover band.
GW: What’s the worst, absolute worst drive you’ve ever had going to a wrestling event? GS: The first time I ever wrestled an event for WWW. Ron Falco got lost going the wrong way on the QEW. Worst. Drive. Ever.
GW: Who’s a former opponent of yours that you’d tag with? GS: Danny Doring. Hands down.
GW: What goes through your head before popping out of the curtains to these fans? GS: Actually, I become more focused. The rhythm of the music gets me fired up. All the emotion I can’t get out from the last time I wrestled until that moment comes out right there.
GW: Finally, who do you look up to as a person and why? GS: Apollo Creed. He’s a brass, big mouth, elaborate Black man!
I couldn’t resist releasing this any longer. Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s my honor to give you folks the FIRST interview of Stevie Richards that he’s done since leaving the ‘big dance’. Originally I had a huge interview planned for him that would delve into the past, seeming that what was what I thought I had to go on. However, Stevie’s more focused on the future and would not like to dwell on the past. Luckily for me he agreed to answer a separate set of questions. Without further ado…
Gunnar Wuher: Stevie, what’s your favorite maneuver to execute in the ring? Stevie Richards: The Stevie Kick. (At this point Danny Doring walks by and shouts out “MRI!”)
GW: What would be the worst injury you’ve ever had during your long career? SR: Well, I’d have to say my throat. I’ve been continuing to struggle with the surgeries on my throat and vocal chords.
GW: What keeps you occupied outside of the Wrestling ring? SR: I’m very blessed to have skills and interests outside of wrestling that I can do on a full time basis. Mind you I love wrestling as well.
GW: What was the worst drive you’ve ever had to an event? SR: It was the late 90’s and I had to go to a show in Pittsburgh. I had to do the trip twice in one of the worst ice storms of the decade. It took 13 hours to do that drive; it was on a weekend so I had to be back in the ECW front office by Monday morning!
GW: Which former foe would you tag with, that you’ve not had a chance to before? SR: Danny Doring Actually. Inside the ring, we might hate each other’s guts. But, Outside? Hah. We’re best buds. That chemistry, I think, would transfer over to the ring very well.
GW: What goes through your head before you head out for a match? SR: I pray. I pray for a lot. No injuries, either myself or my opponent especially. I still get that same bout of nervousness. Just the same level, no more no less, Hell… I can’t imagine being more nervous!
GW: Finally, Who influences you as a person? Why? SR: As cliché as it sounds, Jesus influences everything I do throughout the day. I try to do as he would. I fall short though, just like everyone else. On a personal level, Glenn Jacobs (Kane). He’s a great man; he’s a role model in or outside of wrestling.
Gunnar’s Final Thoughts: I’d like to thank Stevie for giving me the privilege of performing the first post-WWE interview with him. It was an honor to speak to a gentleman such as Stevie. You can catch Stevie doing various things with his time, like the T4Show podcast located at http://www.t4show.com/. This interview pre-dates his newest stint as "Dr. Stevie" on TNA, so I assume you might be able to catch up with him there. I’d also like to thank Mo and Gabe for sitting down with me as well. Hopefully, this finds you fans in good humor and health. I’ll have Faith In Nothing’s profile and I might have a surprise or two up my sleeve for next time. Until then, Email me or IM, I love hearing feedback!
